Cards Smoke the Cubs

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Had to watch today’s game because a buddy of mine from Dallas is somewhere in the bleachers with a crew of friends who went to Chicago for the weekend. Have a ton of work on the computer to get through and I have the TV on across the room so I can keep up with the game.

Last year we were all supposed to go to Chicago for a game and I bought great seats for the first game at Wrigley of the Cards visiting Cubs series. Mailed him the tickets and bought my plane ticket. Then the dumbass booked his flight for himself and his girlfriend at the time and he BOOKED THE WRONG DATES. He and his girl went to Chicago the week BEFORE the game and played tourist - missed the game by a week. OMG! He called in complete embarrassment and sent me back the tickets. So he missed out and I found two local friends at the last minute to go in his place.

Today’s game was a blowout, with several home runs and lots of balls going into the bleachers. I looked at the quick camera shots of the fans but don’t see him anywhere. I wonder if he worked his magic and caught one of those foul balls? He has this way of being in the right place at the right time. Except for the one game I was supposed to go to last year. He’ll never live that down.

Letterman

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

If Letterman is on the TV then I’m up too late and the next day is going to be a bear with me tired from not enough sleep. The problem is, I really like the show. I’ve been watching it for years. I think he’s been on the air for almost 30 years by now. Isn’t that amazing?

One of the funniest things he’s done is the Top 10 List. The writers have an incredible imagination to come up with those lists, night after night. They are always topical and at least 3 or 4 from every list will make me laugh out loud.

Comeback Player of the Year

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

I’ve been watching a handful of St. Louis cardinals games and I have to say that although Albert Pujols is a fantastic player and probably the best athlete in all of professional baseball, I am very impressed with Rick Ankiel.

I don’t much like the Cardinals coach on a personal level, but Larussa does a great job coaching and I have to give him credit for both giving Ankiel a second chance and for coming up with an awesome batting order that allows both Pujols and Ankiel to shine.

Canceled Shows

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Although I don’t watch much TV there are a few shows that I really enjoy and I do try to catch each new episode if there’s any way my schedule allows. I don’t have TIVO - I’m not that big a TV fan that I have to record shows that I miss. For the most part, I have the TV on CBS and rarely change the channel except for a hockey game on Versus or Fox Sports South.

Last week I started reading rumors of the TV shows being canceled for this fall. Have to say that I’m not surprised about many of them as I never watched them anyway. But I am surprised about Moonlight - I know a lot of the women in the office are fans of that show and that was the talk of the water cooler today. Would not be surprised of there is an organized viewer protest over that decision - like the Jericho protest that brought it back for a handful of shows this past year. But alas - even Jericho has bit the dust - again - for next season.

Poor Danica

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Saw the video clip of a pit crewman bouncing off the racetrack when Danica’s car ran into him today. The newscast says that he is in the hospital with relatively minor injuries, a concussion plus cuts and scrapes on his face. He’s lucky it wasn’t much worse and I’ve seen worse. From the video clip it seems like he wasn’t even looking at the approaching car and never saw it coming.

There was a short interview with Danica and she looked pretty haggard. Interestingly, she did not express anything that could be used against her later as admitting any fault or responsibility in the accident. She just said that she was glad to hear that he is OK and hoped that he got back to the track soon.
