Back Burner Idea

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

I’ve been percolating on a business idea that involves advertising for small businesses and I think the time is getting ripe to launch it in the next year or two. I won’t go into the details here, but it involves a custom made display for use in regional malls and I think I finally came up with the design that would work for my idea.

I’ve been looking at the mall kiosks and pushcarts and know that what they have available at the malls now won’t really adapt well for my use. So I started looking online for companies that make displays and found the Godfrey Group. I like their web site because it has lots of photos and good ideas of what other people have designed and use for their businesses. Of course, most of what is out there was designed for trade show displays. But I think it can be easily adapted for use in the malls, too.

I clicked on their tab for custom designs and found a lot of good information. And the Godfrey Group has a best price guarantee. So I can’t go wrong working with the Godfrey Group to fine tune my display design and get my new business launched early next year.

High Impact Advertising

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Everyone in my house is looking forward for the new movie, Speed Racer, to be released this summer. We’ve seen the commercials for a couple of weeks and we are waiting with baited breath. Some of the commercials include an exciting new technology called fade out technology. A company called Jokeroo pioneered the video fade-out technique.

Check out this Video Fade-Out Example.

I heard about this cool technology from a press release about high impact advertising:

Press Release:

TORONTO, Ontario–(BUSINESS WIRE)—-Jokeroo.com, http://www.jokeroo.com, one of the pioneers in internet video and entertainment, has premiered the video fade-out advertisement with the upcoming movie, Speed Racer. The new format was designed to attract marketers across the globe with an advertisement that’s high impact and engaging, while avoiding any negative impact on the user.

Although the campaign is still in its infancy, it has produced spectacular results posting a click-through north of 4 percent, which is much higher than eMarketer’s quoted preroll standard of 0.5 to 0.9 percent. “When coming up with the idea we were looking for something that offered great performance for the advertiser while keeping the user happy,” says Aleks Dugonjic, the President of Jokeroo.com.

The creative takes up the full screen outside of the video player environment, which avoids interrupting the user experience but allows the advertiser’s brand to go unnoticed. The fade-out can last up to thirty seconds until it slowly starts fading out and the Jokeroo.com webpage appears. A live example can be found here: http://www.jokeroo.com/funnyvideos/transformers_stop_motion.html

About Jokeroo.com

Jokeroo.com is one of the leading video entertainment websites on the market today, ranked in the top 50 by comScore in multimedia and 2nd in humor. The company currently hosts over 6 million unique visitors, 150,000+ community members, and has over 1 million active email subscriptions.

Mom

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Either I have to go buy a Mother’s Day present tomorrow and get it in the mail to my mom, or I need to order something for her online. I wish it was as easy as sending her flowers, but since she has a lot of trouble with hayfever and allergies, I don’t send flowers or plants to her.

A friend of mine mentioned on her blog that she was using a website called Collectibles Today to shop for her Mother’s Day gifts, so I surfed on over and liked the variety of gift items and wonderful mothers day gifts they have.

Usually I can select a nice pair of earrings or a necklace for her and know that she will appreciate the gift and actually wear the jewelry. Over the years I have given her several different jewelry items and she has quite a collection of nice things. Back in her day, everything had to be completely coordinated, the shoes match the purse, the necklace is a certain style depending on the neckline of the dress or blouse, the earrings had to match the necklace, etc. She was always a fashion forward woman and I love her sense of style.

I’ll order this cute necklace and have them ship it to her house in Maryland, then I’ll try to arrange a day off over Mother’s day weekend so I can drive up and spend the day with her. Maybe we can go out to a nice brunch or dinner, too. It will be nice to have some time with her and Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to do it.
