Pinching Pennies for Gas

With all the driving I have to do for work, I’m filling up my Tahoe every third day, including weekends. Now that gas has hit $3.59 a gallon in most areas, that is really putting a hurt on my wallet compared to the same date a year ago. My contract is up for renegotiation and renewal next month and I’ve put out feelers to see if the company is going to do anything to help offset this huge extra expense for us. If they can’t come up with something reasonable, I’m seriously considering looking elsewhere.

With this type of work there is not much alternative. I have to drive every day, alone - no carpooling. I must have a large enough vehicle to accommodate the product - a smaller car won’t get the job done. I already check the air pressure in the tires and keep the oil changed, and I look up the cheapest gas prices on the internet and try to work my route around fill ups in the area where I can fill up for the lowest prices.

So today I had another idea - perhaps I should apply for gas rewards credit cards and use the new card to track and manage the money I spend on gas. I used to use a debit card for gas purchases, but that has caused problems at some of the local stations with an extra hold placed on my account for several days. If I get a gas rewards card I can just pay the balance when I get the monthly statement and I’ll get rewards, too. I understand that a percentage of the money spent on gas is applied back to my gas rewards account as a credit.

The gas rewards card and other types of cards are reviewed on a new website called Credit Cards Club and you can choose which cards you want and apply right there on their site. They also have a library of information articles on the site, such as “Credit Counseling for Credit Repair” and other credit related topics. If you are looking for a new credit card, check out this site and let me know in a comment if you found it as helpful as I did.
